Files and Images That Load

search What we check

Whether the files linked from the main content (PDF, documents, archives, image files) and its images actually load, following redirects to the final answer. A 404 or 410 means the file is gone; a refusal or no answer is not counted as dead.

build How to fix

1. 1 Restore the missing files, or update the links and image addresses to where the files are now.
2. 2 After moving a site to a new domain, check that old file addresses redirect to files that exist; a redirect to a missing file still ends in a 404.
3. 3 On a download page (certificates, manuals, price lists) a dead link means the reader cannot get the document the page promises.
