FAQ Section
priority_high Why it matters
AI search engines extract FAQ answers as direct responses — this is the #1 way to appear in Perplexity results.
search What we check
Whether the page contains a dedicated FAQ section, uses question-based headings, or — for long-form analytical Articles — combines two or more alternative AI-citation patterns (Key Takeaways summary, Sources section, comparison table) instead. FAQ schema markup alone is not enough: a May 2026 Ahrefs study of 1,885 pages found schema correlated with only +2.2% ChatGPT citations and -4.6% AI Overviews; 2026 citation-rate data shows comparison tables (61%) and data tables (67%) land in the same tier as FAQ schema (58%) on their own, but combos of two patterns hit 65%+.
build How to fix
- 1 Add an H2 heading 'FAQ' or 'Frequently Asked Questions' followed by H3 questions and concise answers.
- 2 Alternatively, use 3+ question-shaped H2/H3 headings (e.g. 'What is X?', 'How does Y work?') as an implicit FAQ.
- 3 For long-form editorial Articles (1500+ words) with fewer than 2 question-shaped headings: provide at least TWO of — Key Takeaways summary, Sources section, comparison table. Two signals downgrade this check to info; a single pattern stays at warn because it only matches the FAQ tier, not exceeds it.
- 4 Add FAQPage schema for rich-snippet eligibility, but treat it as a bonus — LLMs cite rendered HTML passages, not metadata.
