The Best AI SEO Tools in 2026, Grouped by the Job They Do

"AI SEO tool" now covers products that do very different things. Some ask ChatGPT and Perplexity hundreds of prompts a day and report how often your brand comes up. Some score a draft against the pages that already rank. Some audit a page for the signals AI search engines need. Buying one when you needed another is the most common mistake. This guide groups fifteen tools by the job they do, with features and starting prices taken from each vendor's own pages in October 2026.

Disclosure: Hybrid Ranking is our product and appears in the audit category. Every other entry is described from the vendor's own documentation, not from review sites, and we have no affiliate relationships with any of them.

Key Takeaways

  • Decide the job first. Tracking whether AI assistants mention you, improving a specific page, and auditing pages for AI-search readiness are three different purchases.
  • AI visibility tracking is now everywhere. Ten of the eleven non-suite tools we checked track brand visibility in AI answers; only MarketMuse does not. Entry plans range from 15 to 350 tracked prompts.
  • Two free reports cover a lot. Google Search Console added a Generative AI performance report for AI Overviews and AI Mode in 2026, and Bing Webmaster Tools reports how often Copilot cites your pages.
  • Prices change monthly. Treat every number below as a snapshot from October 2026 and check the vendor page before you buy.

Start Free: Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

Before paying for tracking, use the two reports that come from the search engines themselves.

  • Google Search Console now has a Generative AI performance report covering AI Overviews and AI Mode, with impressions over time, top pages and breakdowns by country and device. Google says it was rolled out to all websites worldwide; sites with very few AI impressions may not see it. AI traffic is also counted in the regular Performance report under the Web search type.
  • Bing Webmaster Tools has an AI Performance report, in public preview since February 2026. It counts citations of your pages in Microsoft Copilot and Bing's AI summaries, and a June 2026 update added citation share against other sites. It covers Microsoft surfaces only.

Neither covers ChatGPT or Perplexity. That gap is what the paid trackers fill. Our guide to measuring AI visibility shows how to combine these reports with analytics and server logs.

AI Visibility Trackers

These tools run a set of prompts against AI assistants on a schedule and report mentions, citations and share of voice. Compare them on three things: which engines are covered on the plan you can afford, how many prompts that plan includes, and how often prompts run.

Tool Engines on entry plan Entry price Free option
Otterly.AI ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot (Claude, AI Mode, Gemini as add-ons) $29/mo, 15 prompts Free trial
Peec AI 3 models of your choice, tracked daily Not published in readable form Free trial
Writesonic ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews (8 engines on Enterprise) $79/mo billed annually, 50 prompts Free start, no card
Scrunch ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Meta $250/mo annually, 350 prompts 7-day trial
Profound Up to 9 engines on Enterprise Custom 7-day trial (50 prompts/day)

Two suites offer the same job as an add-on: Ahrefs Brand Radar (AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, from $199/mo) and Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit ($99/mo). If you already pay for one of them, start there.

A caveat for every tracker: AI answers vary between runs, users and locations, so a single prompt check is an anecdote. Look at trends across many prompts and days.

Content Optimization Tools

These score and improve individual pages, and most now add AI visibility tracking on top.

  • Surfer - a content editor that now positions itself as an AI search visibility platform. Its Pro plan tracks 50 prompts daily across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini. Discovery starts at €49/mo billed yearly but has no AI tracking.
  • Clearscope - content grading with query tracking across ChatGPT and Gemini. Essentials is $129/mo with 50 tracked queries; 14-day free trial.
  • Frase - describes itself as a content operating system for AI search, with AI visibility monitoring and GEO optimization. Starter is $39/mo yearly or $49/mo monthly with 50 tracked prompts; 7-day trial.
  • MarketMuse - content planning that tells you what to write and how much. Its pages do not mention AI search tracking. There is a free plan (1 user, 10 queries per month); paid tiers are sold through demos.
  • Ahrefs AI Content Helper - grades content against top-ranking pages; part of Ahrefs' Content Kit.

Trackers tell you whether you are mentioned. Audits tell you why a page is or is not usable by AI search, and what to change. This is the job we built Hybrid Ranking for.

  • Hybrid Ranking (our product) - a per-page audit of AI-search signals: rules for each AI crawler in robots.txt, structured data, llms.txt, and on Pro an LLM analysis of answer passages, front-loading, fact density and E-E-A-T signals, with a copy-paste fix prompt for every issue. Free plan with 20 audits a month; Pro is $29/mo.
  • Semrush Site Audit - includes an AI Search category that reports pages blocked from AI search bots, checks llms.txt and rolls issues into an AI Search Health score.
  • Ahrefs Site Audit - free for verified sites through Ahrefs Free, with structured data validation and optional JavaScript rendering.
  • Screaming Frog SEO Spider - the desktop crawler for whole-site audits. It can crawl as an AI crawler user-agent, render JavaScript, and connect to OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic or Ollama with your own API key. $279 per year; free up to 500 URLs.

We compared these in more detail in Hybrid Ranking vs Ahrefs, vs Semrush and vs Screaming Frog.

Suites With AI Features

If you need keyword research, backlinks and rank tracking as well, a suite with AI add-ons can replace several tools above.

  • Ahrefs - from $29/mo (Starter), with Brand Radar for AI visibility and a free tier for site owners.
  • Semrush - SEO plan from $139/mo; Semrush One bundles SEO with the AI Visibility Toolkit from $199/mo; free plan with 10 reports a day.

How to Choose

  1. "Are we mentioned in AI answers, and is it changing?" Start with Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, then add a tracker (or a suite add-on you already pay for) for ChatGPT and Perplexity.
  2. "Why isn't this page picked up, and what do we fix?" Use a page audit.
  3. "Is this draft good enough to compete?" Use a content optimization tool.
  4. "We need everything, including links and keywords." Use a suite and add AI features as needed.

Whatever you buy, the fundamentals do not change: AI crawlers have to be allowed in, the content has to be in the HTML, and the page has to answer the question clearly. Our GEO guide covers those in detail.
